Final Presentation: Geolocation Integration

Our topic for our final presentation was Geolocation Intergration. Basically, we had to research and talk about this for our final presenetation. Our group members were me (Kazuya), Adam, Lauren, and KC.

In order to complete this project, we used some applications, including Twitter, Google Docs,  and Linkedin. First, Lauren set up a Google Doc group for everyone to communicate smothly within our groups. Creating a googl doc group was very great thing, because we all were able to check out what was going on our group and what we needed to get done with our project. Next, KC set up a Twitter hashtag named after our group “The Geo Geeks”. The hashtag was #geo_geeks, and was used to share articles together. Whenever we found a website or article with useful information for our project, we tweeted those links on our hastag (#geo_geeks). Wee were able to access those easily and effectively. Finally, Adam set up a LinkedIn group, The Geo Geeks, but we really didn’t use this application at all.

In general, we found articles and some information through Google Alerts. We all registerd “geolocation”, so everyday we all got some information and shared them with our team. This made finding information extremely easy and efficiently. After we all found a good information, we finaly discussed about how we are going to do each part of the project. After we decided that, each group member finished each part by him or herself. However, we used the chat feature in Google Docs to discuss certain aspects of the project when it was being put together.

Overall, this was an fun project to work on, because were able to work from our own homes. We did not have to set up a date or time to meet. It made time management incredibly easy, and made the entire project completely not stressful. Because of this experience, I will use these applications when I work on future projects later in my career.

Facebook Places VS Foursquare

I have downloaded two applications, Facebook Places and Foursquare, for my phone. These two applications have the same concept: check in. I think these applications are very good for business. The reason is that when you use these tools and show your friends where they are, this means that you are advertising the place where you are at same time. Let’s say when you check in the Starbucks, your friends might feel that we need to go to Starbucks to check something out.

Facebook places are a new location feauture on Facebook. This application is that you can let your facebook friends know where you are at such as coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and many other places. They are able to see where you check in, and also you are able to see where your friends check in.

The other tool, Foursquare, is the similar application to Facebook places. I feel that the difference between two applications is that foursquare has a kind of much more smaller network, because you have to accept your friends on individual bases. On Facebook, everyone, including your families, friends, boss, and many others, can check out automatically where you are.

It is hard to tell which one is good or bad, but I will use more Facebook Places. The reason is that I frequently check out my Facebook page, so it is easy for me to use the application at same time and show my friends where I am.

Social Media Dashboard makes our lives easier

Filed under: MKTG3730,Topic of the week — kazbronco @ 4:47 pm

Currently, there are different dashboards: HootSuiteTweetdeckTweet GridSeesmic, and Monitter. I believe that these are popular dashboards. However, there are pros and cons about each one of them, but I will show you what I think each one of them.

Here is my opinions in each dashboard.

HootSuite: Personally, I like this tool, because it is easy to manage multiple social accounts, including facebook, twitter, Linkedin, and so on. Also, it is easy to check on schedule and updates. I do not have a smart phone, but if I have it, I will definitely use this application. The reason is that  it will be more efficient when working or communicating with others.

Tweetdeck & Seesmic: I do not know what is difference between these two applications. Both of them are very similar. I found out that Tweetdeck cannot connect with Linkedin account. Others are same. However, these tools are very easy to use and navigate. I will use these tools for sure in the future.

Socialoomph: I do not like this dashboard, because  I have to create an new account, which is not connected with Twitter event though other dashboards can easily make an account through twitter. To me, this dashboard is very complicated.  I will not be using this dashboad.

TweetGrid: I do not like this dashboard, because this thing is not easy to see, and the box makes me get frustrated. I will not use this tool for sure.

Monitter: Actually, I was able to make an account through Twitter, but I could not figure out how to use this tool, so I do not know what to say.

After checking out these dashboards, I have decided to stick with HootSuite, Seesmic, and Tweetdeck, because these sites are easy to navigate and use.  What do you think about these dashboards?

What do you think about social media?

Social networking has been making a great impact on our life. I did not have any social networking until I came here in the United States, because I did not even use my computer when I was in high school. I remember that when I started creating  my Facebook profile, I did not even know what the purpose of this tool is at that time. The reason why I made an account, because my host family recommended me to create it. They also told me that most of college students have it. This is originally when I was connected with other people through the Internet all over the world. After I had a couple of marketing classes at college, I realized some people use Facebook for a different reason. They use Facebook for business, including promoting some events and advertisements. I think using Facebook for business is a great idea to communicate and connect with customers all over the world instead of only communicating with friends and families.

I am taking the Internet Marketing class, which is taught by Dr. William J. Ward in this spring semester. And he told us to have Linkedin, Twitter, and Blog. When he told us to have them in the class, I felt why I need to get these accounts. However, I found out these are great social networking cites that are very efficient and professional communication tools. I believe these social networking tools are beneficial to obtain some great information which you do not know. Also, Twitter and Linkedin can be used for finding internship or job opportunities. How awesome are they!!????  Social media has so many advantages, and the social media will develop continually and bring more positive things on our life.
